Then there’s family commitments. My girlfriend has a big family, and they often have family gatherings on weekends. I have a smaller family, and we don’t have as many get-togethers. Finally, I realized that stress levels were also a factor. When I’m stressed at work, I tend to withdraw and be in a bad mood. My girlfriend, when she’s stressed, wants to talk about it. This difference in how we deal with stress made it hard for us to be there for each other at the right time.
After all these observations, I sat down with my girlfriend and we talked about it. We decided to make some changes. We adjusted our work schedules a bit, tried to find a balance in our social lives, and even found a new hobby that we both liked, like hiking. We also agreed to be more understanding of each other’s family commitments and stress levels.
