Need questions to ask tarot card reader? Try these!

Need questions to ask tarot card reader? Try these!

Man, I remember the first time I thought about getting a tarot reading. It wasn’t because I was in some deep spiritual crisis or anything. More like, I was just plain stuck. You know those moments when you feel like you’re just spinning your wheels, and you’ve talked to every friend, read every self-help book, and still feel like you’re missing something? Yeah, that was me, maybe a couple of years back.

A buddy of mine kept raving about his tarot reader, how it wasn’t about fortune-telling but more about gaining clarity. He said it was like having a really good, unbiased conversation with someone who just sees things a bit differently. I was skeptical, for sure, but also kinda desperate for a fresh perspective. So, I figured, why not give it a shot?

My biggest hang-up, though, wasn’t finding a reader – there were plenty online – it was figuring out what the heck I should even ask. I didn’t want to walk in there and just be like, “So, what’s up?” or “Tell me my future,” because that just felt dumb. I wanted to get something tangible out of it, something I could actually work with. I spent a good few days just trying to come up with questions, and let me tell you, it was harder than it sounds.

I started with all the big, vague stuff. “Will I ever be rich?” “Will I find true love?” But then I thought, what kind of answer would I even get to that? Probably something equally vague that wouldn’t help me one bit. I wanted answers that felt like they were pointing me towards some action, you know? Something I could actually do after the reading was over.

So, I started shifting my approach. Instead of asking about outcomes, I tried asking about my current situation. What was I missing? What was holding me back? I wrote down a whole list of potential questions, probably twenty or thirty, and then I kept refining them, making them less about “what will happen” and more about “what can I understand or change?”

Finally, I picked a reader who had good reviews and seemed pretty down-to-earth. She did online readings, which was perfect for me at the time. I remember logging into the video call, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. She had a calm vibe, and when she started shuffling the cards, it was almost hypnotic. My screen was full of all these colorful, crazy images, and I just tried to soak it all in.

When it came time for me to ask my questions, I started with one I’d really hammered out:

“What’s the biggest obstacle I’m currently facing in my career that I might not be seeing clearly?”

Man, that question opened up a can of worms in the best way. She pulled a few cards, described them, and then she started talking about self-doubt, about my own tendency to overthink and second-guess myself, and how that was creating a bottleneck. It wasn’t some grand external force; it was me. It hit home hard because it felt true. It gave me something concrete to actually chew on and work on.

Then I asked another one that had been bugging me:

“What’s one aspect of my current relationship that I should focus on strengthening?”

Again, super insightful. She talked about communication, but not just the talking part. She highlighted listening, really listening, without immediate judgment or planning my response. It was about creating more space for genuine understanding. Simple advice, but powerful when framed by the cards and her interpretation.

I tried a few other direct questions like:

  • “What’s a positive quality I possess that I should leverage more in my daily life?”
  • “What past experience is subtly influencing my current decisions, and how can I understand it better?”
  • “What’s a practical step I can take this week to feel more aligned with my goals?”

What I learned from that first reading, and subsequent ones, is that the magic isn’t in asking the cards to predict your future. It’s in asking them to illuminate your present, to show you what’s going on inside you and around you that you might be blind to. The reader isn’t telling you what to do; they’re holding up a mirror, helping you see yourself and your situation more clearly.

So, if you’re thinking about getting a reading and you’re stuck on what to ask, ditch the “will I, when will I” questions. Focus on the “what, how, and why” of your current state. Frame your questions around clarity, understanding, and actionable insights. It makes all the difference.

Here are a few types of questions that I’ve found to be really helpful:

  • Focus on Self-Reflection: Instead of “Will I get that job?”, try “What inner qualities do I need to develop to attract the right career opportunity?” or “What’s preventing me from feeling confident in my job search?”
  • Seek Understanding, Not Prediction: Don’t ask “When will I meet someone?” Ask “What aspects of myself can I cultivate to be more open to a fulfilling relationship?” or “What lessons from past relationships can help me move forward?”
  • Look for Obstacles and Solutions: Instead of “Will this project succeed?”, ask “What challenges might I encounter with this project, and how can I best prepare for them?” or “What’s the best approach to overcome the current hurdle I’m facing?”
  • Ask for Guidance on Action: Forget “Should I do X or Y?” Try “What might be the potential outcomes if I pursue path X versus path Y, and what can I learn from each?” or “What one small step can I take today to move closer to my goal?”
  • Explore Relationships (not just romantic): Instead of “Will my friendship with so-and-so last?”, ask “What is the core dynamic of my relationship with so-and-so, and how can I contribute to its positive growth?” or “What can I do to better understand the needs of someone important in my life?”

Trust me, moving from vague predictions to focused self-inquiry makes the whole experience much more powerful. It’s not about magic telling you what to do. It’s about getting a nudge in the right direction, seeing things from a different angle, and then taking that insight and actually putting it to work in your life. That’s where the real transformation happens, not just in the cards, but in what you choose to do with what they reveal.
