One day, I was strolling around a local Chinese restaurant and saw those little fortune cookies on the counter. I got curious about the so – called free fortune cookie reading. I thought, “Hey, let me give it a shot and see if it’s accurate.”
I picked up a fortune cookie and gently cracked it open. Inside, there was a small piece of paper with a fortune written on it. It said something like, “You will soon receive unexpected good news.” I read it and thought, “Well, that’s pretty vague. How am I supposed to know if it’s accurate?”
After that, I decided to keep a record. I started noting down the date and the fortune I got from the cookie. I also started paying extra attention to my daily life, looking out for any unexpected good news. Every day when I woke up, I’d think about that fortune and wonder if today was the day.
Days passed, and I didn’t really notice any significant unexpected good news. I got a bit disappointed but still kept my eyes peeled. Then, one week later, I got an email from an old friend. We hadn’t talked in ages, and in the email, they invited me to a really cool event. I thought, “Hey, maybe this is the unexpected good news the fortune was talking about!”
I was excited at first, but then I started to think more deeply. Was this really because of the fortune in the cookie? Or was it just a coincidence? I mean, old friends do reach out from time to time, right?
I continued my experiment. I went back to the restaurant a few more times and got different fortunes each time. One said I’d have a lucky encounter, and another said I’d solve a long – standing problem. For the lucky encounter, I was on the bus one day, and I sat next to a guy who turned out to be really interesting. We had a great chat. But again, was it the fortune working, or just a normal thing that happens on a bus?
As for the long – standing problem, I had a small issue with my car’s engine. I took it to the mechanic, and he fixed it easily. Was that the solution the fortune predicted? I’m still not sure.
After a few months of this experiment, I’ve come to realize that fortune cookie readings are probably more for fun than anything else. They’re so vague that you can kind of fit any event in your life to match them. Experts say that our brains are wired to look for patterns, so we tend to connect random events to these fortunes. So, while it’s a fun thing to do, don’t rely on fortune cookie readings to predict your future!
