Well, I remember when I first got my hands on a fortune – telling cards deck, I was super excited but also totally lost. I mean, what do these cards even mean?
I started by just looking at the cards. I shuffled them up real good, like I was trying to mix a big bowl of cereal. Then I laid them out on the table in a random mess. I thought, “Okay, now what?”
I decided to pick a card. I closed my eyes and just grabbed one. When I opened my eyes, I was like, “What the heck is this picture supposed to tell me?” It was a card with a weird – looking creature on it. I had no clue.
So, I went to my friend who’s kind of into this stuff. He told me I should read up on the basic meanings of the cards. I went home and started flipping through the little booklet that came with the deck. It was like reading a really strange storybook. I learned that each card had a different meaning, like some were about love, some about money, and some about just random life events.

Next, I wanted to try a proper spread. I watched a few videos on my phone about different spreads. I decided to go with a simple three – card spread. I shuffled the cards again, this time more carefully. I laid out three cards in a row.
The first card was supposed to represent the past. It showed a broken bridge. I thought, “Oh, maybe there’s something in my past that I need to get over, like a friendship that ended.” The second card, for the present, had a sunny field. I was like, “Hey, things are okay right now!” And the third card, for the future, had a closed door. I guessed it meant there might be some obstacles ahead.
I kept practicing. Every day, I’d do a little spread. I’d write down what the cards said and then see if it matched what was going on in my life. Sometimes it seemed to fit, like one day the cards said there’d be a small surprise, and I got a free coffee at the shop. Other times, I was like, “This is just random.”
As I got more used to it, I started to trust my own intuition more. Instead of just relying on the booklet, I’d look at the cards and think about what they meant to me personally. For example, a card with a bird flying might mean freedom to me, even if the booklet said something different.
After a few weeks of practice, I felt like I was getting the hang of it. I could do spreads faster and make more sense of the cards. I even started doing spreads for my friends. They were pretty interested, and some of them said the readings were kind of accurate.
So, if you’re a beginner like I was, don’t be scared. Just start shuffling those cards, read up a bit, and practice as much as you can. You’ll get better at using fortune – telling cards decks in no time!
