Pisces 2018 career horoscope, how was it?

Pisces 2018 career horoscope, how was it?

Man, 2018. That title, “Pisces 2018 career horoscope,” it actually makes me chuckle now, looking back at it. Not because I’m some big believer in daily star signs telling me what’s up, but because that year? It was a wild ride, and if any horoscope predicted that mess, they earned their keep. I remember seeing those things pop up, always a bit vague, full of “new opportunities” and “challenges.” Yeah, no kidding, life’s full of those, right?

At the start of 2018, I felt like I was just hitting my head against a wall. I was at this company, had been there for a good while. Not bad money, steady work, but it was just… stale. Every day felt the same. I’d walk in, clock on, do the same tasks, clock off. My ideas, even the small ones, just got swallowed up or ignored. I tried to push things, tried to get people to see a different way of doing stuff, but it was like talking to rocks. The energy just wasn’t there anymore, not from me, not from the place. I felt this huge drag, like I was moving through thick mud, dreaming of something else, but not really doing anything about it. Just hoping, I guess.

Then, around spring, something just clicked. It wasn’t a sudden flash of genius or anything. It was more like a slow burn of frustration finally boiling over. I saw a couple of my old colleagues, guys I used to work with years back, posting stuff online about what they were doing, new projects, fresh starts. And honestly, I felt this pang of jealousy. Like, why were they moving forward and I was just… stuck? That really got me thinking. I went home that evening and just sat there, staring at the wall, thinking about what I actually wanted, not just what I was tolerating.

Taking Action, Finally

First thing I did was just start looking. Not seriously, just browsing job boards late at night when the house was quiet. Didn’t apply to anything, just wanted to see what was out there. What skills were in demand, what kind of roles existed that I hadn’t even thought about. I spent a good month or so just gathering info, quietly, without telling anyone. My wife, bless her, she noticed I was on my laptop more, but didn’t push. She knew something was brewing.

Then I decided to actually do something. I started updating my old resume. Man, that thing was gathering dust. I stripped it down, rebuilt it, highlighting what I actually enjoyed doing, not just what my current job made me do. It took me a good few weekends to get it looking half-decent. I even asked a buddy to glance over it, just for a fresh pair of eyes. He gave me some tough love, told me to cut the fluff and get to the point. That helped a ton.

Next up, I started applying. This was the real grind. Sending out resumes, getting nothing back. Or getting those automated “thanks but no thanks” emails. It was demoralizing, honestly. I’d send out five applications, feel hopeful, then get shot down four times. But I kept at it. Every morning, I’d wake up a little earlier, spend an hour just focused on applications. After work, another hour. It was like a second job, trying to land a new first job.

  • Updated my rusty resume.
  • Reached out to old contacts, just for a chat, not even asking for a job directly.
  • Started learning some new tools in the evenings, just watching tutorials online.
  • Attended a local meetup related to my field, felt super awkward at first.

I must have sent out dozens, maybe even a hundred applications. I had a couple of phone screens, some went nowhere, a couple of in-person interviews that felt promising but fizzled out. It was tough to keep the spirits up, but that feeling of being stuck back at the old place was a stronger push. I just couldn’t imagine another year like that.

The Breakthrough

Then, late summer, something shifted. I got a call for an interview, an unexpected one. It was for a company that had reached out to me on a platform I barely used. Their recruiter saw my updated profile and thought I might be a fit. I prepared like crazy for that one. Did my homework on the company, on the people I’d be meeting. I went in feeling nervous, but also like, “Okay, this is it. Give it everything.”

The interview went well. It wasn’t perfect, I stumbled on a couple of questions, but I felt like I connected with them. The vibe was different. More collaborative, more open. They seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say, in my ideas. They asked about my frustrations at my old job, and I didn’t hold back, but spun it positively, talking about wanting more impact, more growth. I walked out of there feeling lighter than I had in months.

A week later, they called. Offered me the job. It was a significant step up, not just in title, but in the kind of work. More strategic, more hands-on with new tech. I remember literally pumping my fist in the air when I hung up the phone. It was such a huge relief, like a weight lifted. I gave my notice at the old place, and man, that was a satisfying conversation. Not rude, just firm. I was moving on.

So, 2018 for this Pisces? It was a year of feeling totally bogged down, gathering the courage to make a move, grinding through rejection, and finally, finally landing something that felt right. It wasn’t some grand cosmic prediction that made it happen; it was a slow, painful, deliberate effort. But yeah, looking back, it definitely felt like a new chapter opened up, just as those horoscopes always vaguely promise. Sometimes you gotta make your own stars align, you know?
